Conceptualising and managing supervisory drift

Abstract Clinical supervision is widely considered to be an essential component in the translation of evidence-based treatment protocols into routine clinical practice. Experts field have produced guidance on structuring CBT supervision, yet previous surveys everyday practices consistently found that supervisors and supervisees appear drift from these recommendations. Surprisingly, little has been written origins maintenance supervisory thus it remains a poorly understood phenomenon. To assist supervisors, meta-supervisors recognising responding signs drift, this paper seeks build understanding therapist by conceptualising how supervisor supervisee cognitions, emotions behaviour could intentionally or unintentionally render process ineffective at worst harmful.
